Hokitika, Wanaka & Queenstown

After the heli-hike we drove through some really beautiful blue glacier streams as well as a little town called Hokitika which is known for it driftwood as well as for creating the best bonestone and jade carvings.

We stoped in Wanaka, which is a little town by Lake Wanaka. Wanaka is a very popular holiday place amongst the kiwis possibly due to its clear lake with snow covered mountains in the background. Me, Markus and Lena went horseback riding on the mountains on Andalusia horses. Riding on the mountains was quite different to riding back home as it went quite slow and wobbly from side to side as the horses had to go both up and down very steep hills. The horses were however perfect for this cause and did not put there hooves in the wrong place or tremble once.
We moved on to Queenstown, where Markus went up the Gondola with his parents while me and mum went to the botanic gardens. Queenstown is the adventure capital of NZ but it is actually also a very nice town with lots of cafées, restaurants and nice architecture.
On the 12th of January we all flew back to Auckland and had the goodbye dinner with the seven of us, Molly, Tony, Stef, Nick, John and my second cousin Jake at a restaurant called Moonsoon Poon. On the 13th our family left and our real adventure begun.
